Eco in Cork has been serving fabulous food for over 25 years at their restaurant in Douglas, Cork. And earlier this year the opened also at the Marina Market in Cork, a great indoor market with over 35 food vendors and open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Sunday. Eco pride itself on producing a varied, well-rounded menu with a focus on a superb gluten free offering for their clients. Eco’s menu has continued to evolve over the years, and features an assortment of dishes that range from exotic international flavours, such as their famous curries, to simple, lovingly prepared comfort foods like their beautiful fish & chips prepared with Smedes Gluten Free Batter Mix.
When meeting with owner Dave Halpin and Chef & Partner Chris Prinsloo at their Marina Market outlet they let us taste their standard fish & chips as well as their own innovative fish & chips varieties, all made with Smedes Gluten Free Batter Mix:
- Chili fish & chips – lovely & spicy!
- Charcoal fish & chips – black & healthier – definitely something you have to see (and taste) to believe!
Why use Smedes Gluten Free batter? Early 2022 Eco found out that the manufacturer of their gluten free batter flour was no longer able to deliver their product due to the lack of certain ingredient. It was at that stage that Chef Chris Prinsloo purchased all available gluten free barter options available in the market and tested them to find a suitable replacement. Chris mentions: “Smedes Gluten Free batter was by far the best batter mix in the test and was also instantly available to us!”.
Dave added: “we have found a great product in Smedes and will definitely keep using it”.
